No, really. The pitiful-est. Pitifullest? Anyway. To distract myself from my current state of abject misery, I'm going to keep hunt-and-peck typing this out with my one free hand (the only body part not currently huddled under the giant puffy comforter with the rest of pitiful me).

It's been an interesting few months, to say the least. Newly single after the most mutual, affable breakup I've ever heard of, to start with. That things ended so peacefully almost makes it more difficult, in some ways. My ex in particular seems to be struggling to discern the borders of actually-just-friends territory, but so far we're making it work.

I'm not entirely sure I'm handling being single as well as I intended; it hasn't even been two months and I'm (casually, sort of) dating three guys, which is a lot of work, let me tell you! I really don't know what I want right now, but this - dating in a non-monogamous fashion - isn't something I've ever done before, and I still can't tell if I like it or not. Like I said, a lot of effort both tangible and mental, though the attention is nice, and certainly staying busy is keeping me from brooding about stressful things. It's a toss-up.

I don't know; I'm not a fan of complications and drama, and I don't want to hurt anyone (or me!) by flailing about without thinking things through, but I just don't know what I want right now. I'm certainly not ready to fall in love, and I'm trying to make that clear to them. They're all sweet, and don't deserve to have their feelings stepped on. I honestly didn't think they'd all want second dates! Sigh. Nerd catnip, I am.

One of the bachelors and I hung out at a used book store, and they had In His Majesty's Service! It's an omnibus of the first three Temeraire books, which I've been consistently hearing good things about, so I snapped it up - and then read the entire first book in one four-hour swoop. Who needs sleep when there are Napoleonic War-era dragons to read about? :P

It really was a very satisfying read, and I'd recommend the series to anyone. I'm trying to resist the siren call of the next book, but really, I'm home sick. Glutting yourself on stories is what sick days are for, right?
